McDonald, now with Carolina, was routinely made fun of for being gay (even though players said they didn’t actually believe he was gay).
He also received a male blow-up doll from offensive line coach Jim Turner, while other players received female dolls as gag Christmas gifts.
McDonald’s agent, Brett Tessler, released a statement saying McDonald has a good relationship with the Dolphins.
Andrew is disappointed that his name has become associated with this story. He’s been a member of another organization since last season and is trying to focus on the future. When Ted Wells approached Andrew at the end of the investigation, Mr. Wells already had all the information contained in the report that he had gotten elsewhere. While Andrew can’t speak for any other players involved in the report, he personally has no problems with the Miami Dolphins organization and has the highest opinion of Coach Turner both personally and professionally and feels terrible about the way their relationship has been portrayed in the report.
It’s not surprising that McDonald, who still has to deal with a NFL locker room, would want to distance himself from the report — especially because Wells went out of his way to keep McDonald anonymous.
His name only came to light because a batch of text messages between Jonathan Martin and Richie Incongito were recently released to USA Today. In one of the texts, Martin threatens to give McDonald bath salts and a sandpaper condom and lock him in a room with Incognito.
Wells referenced the same text in his report but kept McDonald’s name out of it.
